The broiling controversy over Arizona's new immigration law couldn't have come at a better time for a locally made movie showing tonight and Sunday at the Plaza Classic Film Festival.
But the fictional film, "Ilegales," which looks at the immigration issue from several points of view, isn't really a pro or con thing, according to Jake Pokluda of Collaborative Artists, its El Paso-based producer.
"It's not a political film in any way, shape or form. What I liked about it is it is a very human story. It's five interconnecting stories. It's kind of in the tradition of 'Crash' or 'Traffic,' " he said.
"Ilegales" was filmed over 18 days last summer in Southern New Mexico and western El Paso County.
